Off the Schneid

Last night during the CBC broadcast, Mark Lee said that the Canucks were "off the Schneid" after Schneider scored in the 2nd period. I didn't understand his reference, so I looked it up and am delighted to share the meaning with you.

The basic meaning of phrase means is to end a losing streak'.

In baseball (according to Wikepedia), to get off the schneid is:
To break a scoreless, hitless, or winless streak (i.e., a schneid). According to the Dickson Baseball Dictionary, the term "schneid" comes to baseball via gin rummy, and in turn comes from German / Yiddish "schneider," one who cuts cloth, i.e., a tailor.

So with that 8-2 win over Colorado, I hope that Vancouver is now off the schneid.
